The administration of IBUS affairs is the responsibility of the IBUS Executive Council whilst education is under the direction of the IBUS Breast Imaging School. The diagram outlines the structure showing the two key activities; that is, administration and education.
The IBUS Executive Council is responsible for the administration of all IBUS activities, and consists of the Executive Committee, the Founding Members, and the Executive Alumni. Past Presidents and Past Secretaries are included in the Executive Alumni.
The IBUS Executive Committee has seven members (see Executive Council page).
Professor Erkin Aribal holds the position of IBUS president, and Professor Jeffery C Bamber is the Vice President. Dr Dionysios Koufoudakis is the IBUS Secretary.
Professor Enzo Durante is Past President having completed his presidential term at the end of 2018 and he is also on the Executive Committee as the Chairman of the IBUS Breast Imaging School. In addition, Dr Athina Vourtsi, the Director of Curriculum at the IBUS Breast Imaging School, is a co-opted member of the Executive Committee.
Professor Alexander Mundinger, the Chairman of the Executive Alumni, and Professor Jack Jellins, the Founding President, are both members of the Executive Committee.
The IBUS Breast Imaging School is responsible for arranging multimodality courses consisting of high-quality didactic lectures with faculty members who are recognized authorities specializing in the use of investigative techniques for benign and malignant breast disease detection, diagnosis and treatment.
The Chairman of the School is Professor Enzo Durante, and Dr Athina Vourtsi is the Director of Curriculum.
The program format includes didactic presentations, panel discussions, interactive case presentations, and “hands-on” practical workshops that are an essential part of the course content. The school curriculum is continually updated with new topics added according to the needs for better detection, diagnosis and clinical management of breast diseases. Comprehensive educational resource materials are distributed with each program.
The IBUS Breast Imaging School has an international faculty of more than 40 experts that together with local lecturers form the basis of the teaching staff. Courses have been held in Europe, North and South America, Asia, and Africa. Courses in Europe are accredited by the European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (EACCME) to provide CME activity for medical specialists.
